Step 1: Come up with a name
The first step in learning how to start a WordPress blog has nothing to do with blogging. It’s your job to come up with a name for your blog – think something catchy that stands out and is easy to remember.
Not too long, not too average – and definitely not too complicated. You want people to be able to spell it without trouble. Think about your favorite sites, Facebook, Google, Netflix. Very easy names to use.
Before buying your domain, check if your chosen domain name is available. You can do that here
Pro tip: You don’t have to pay extra for the domain as well. Bluehost offers you a free domain with their web hosting plan.
Step 2: Choose your web host & domain
There are two options to host your blog: use free web hosting or go self-hosted.
As most other bloggers will agree, I recommend you go with the self-hosted option simply because it’s much more professional. (that’s how you don’t get, for example, stockles.wordpress.com attached to your name)
Going self-hosted isn’t that big of an expense and Bluehost is the ultimate favorite among bloggers – here’s why.
Why pick BlueHost?
There are several reasons why I’m staying loyal to Bluehost and why I recommend you sign up for it too.
- It’s very easy to use
As a first time blogger, it’s easy to get overwhelmed by everything blogging-related. Save yourself some valuable time – and money! – and just go with the easiest solution on the market.
Bluehost offers the one-click installer option, which yup, is exactly what it sounds like. One click and you have your very own blog up and running, just like magic.
- You get to save a few dollars
While there might be cheaper options, I don’t think you can beat the pricing plans with what you get from Bluehost.
The 36-month plan is the most affordable one. Your cost comes down to $2.65 per month, which is the average price of a cup of coffee in developed countries!
You also receive a free SSL certificate – Google wants you to have it to rank high – and a free domain. Can’t beat that!
- It’s pretty fast, safe & reliable
Imagine if a visitor comes to your site and it takes more than 10 seconds to load. Or imagine if a loyal fan can’t load your blog because servers are down at random times of the day.
You don’t want to lose readers on a blog you’ll be working so hard on because of bad hosting, do you?
- You join a community of over 2 million people
Right now, approximately 2 million people around the globe use Bluehost! Bluehost is the leading web hosting choice in the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, and Europe.
Step 3: Install WordPress
WordPress is a CMS – Content Managing System – and the leading blogging platform. At the moment of writing, there are approximately 74.6 million websites hosted on WordPress.
WordPress is user-friendly, easy to customize with hundreds of different themes & plugins and doesn’t require you to be a developer to have your own blog.
Using Bluehost means you have access to the one-click installer.
All you need to do is click the button as shown on the video
Step 4: Log in to WordPress
Log in to your WordPress dashboard by typing yourblogname.com/wp-admin
Start building your blog by choosing a theme, customizing it to your preference and adding content that provides value to your target audience.
Pro tip: If you’re a beginner blogger, don’t spend hundreds of dollars on WordPress themes. Use the free ones until you get the hang of it – it’s easy to upgrade at any time!
Step 5: You’re a blog owner now!
Congratulations, that’s it – you’re good to go!
Take a look around your new blog and start tracking your performance. I promise that you’re bound to notice a difference in your dividend income!
